Fastpitch Lessons by Guy DeZarn

No other field position in fastpitch softball requires the skill of pitcher. In a sport that is an anomaly, in that the defense has posession of the ball almost the entire game, the pitcher handles the ball more than any player on the field.

As the popularity of fastpitch has risen so, too, has there been an increase in the number of teams, coaches, instructors, training aids and approaches to the game. Obviously, there is no one correct way to teach pitching--but several. How else to explain the success of such disparate pitching styles as demonstrated by Ueno, Finch and Osterman, to name but a few?

My experience has, however, given me insight into a few commonalities among successful pitchers. Foremost is the need to teach speed (with proper form)before control. Once a slow 'get it over the plate' pitcher, always one.

If you care to learn of my other insights, have a question about your daughter and/or pitcher's speed location and movement of her pitches, or just wish to share thoughts on pitching, feel free to contact me at guyddezarn@yahoo.com
